Asunción City Tour

If you’re looking for a pleasant tour of the city’s most iconic landmarks, you’ve come to the right place. I’m an official guide for SENATUR (National Tourism Secretariat), which is the same as the Ministry of Tourism. I speak Spanish, English, French, and some Italian, Portuguese, and Catalan.

This tour will take you from the founding of Asunción and its colonial architecture to the present day, covering the War of the Triple Alliance, the Chaco War, and the Stroessner dictatorship. I’ll tell you about the people who have shaped the history of this country, as well as the places and their significance in the city. You’ll also learn about typical Paraguayan dishes, how to enjoy a traditional asado, and where to go to sample the best of Paraguayan cuisine.

Itinerary

The tour begins at Plaza Uruguaya, next to the Artigas sculpture. We’ll talk about Augusto Roa Bastos, Cervantes Prize winner and the greatest exponent of Paraguayan literature, the convent that once stood here, and the train station.

We’ll continue along Mariscal Estigarribia Street, where you can see the house of Madame Lynch, an Irish woman who played a significant role in Paraguay because she was the lover of Marshal López, one of Paraguay’s leaders who led the country into the War of the Triple Alliance.

We’ll descend to the Cathedral of Asunción so you can see the city’s original esplanade, as well as the Cabildo (Old City Hall) and the National Congress.

Afterward, we’ll visit the Pantheon of Heroes, the only one in the world with a dual function, and the House of Independence, from where Paraguayans reclaimed their power from the Spanish crown.

We’ll finish by visiting Palma Street, with all its mansions and emblematic architecture, and the López Palace, the government palace. You can also visit the city’s history museum if you wish.

This tour is available until June 30th and from August 23rd. It’s available any day of the week. The tour lasts approximately 3 hours, but if you need to stop, we can, and I’ll adapt to your pace.

The price is per person. You will receive confirmation once the payment has been made via email.

Cancellation Policy

To receive a refund, you must cancel at least 24 hours before our Asunción city tour begins.

If you cancel the experience less than 24 hours in advance, we will not be able to refund your payment.
Date and time changes are only accepted with more than 24 hours’ notice. We will try to accommodate requests made with less notice, but we cannot guarantee it.
The meeting time will be confirmed via WhatsApp to this number.
Asunción’s weather is generally hot year-round, but some days it rains heavily, which can pose a safety risk to participants. If your Asunción city tour date falls on one of these days and we are forced to cancel, we will offer you an alternative date or a full refund.
